BlogOn MSI – Roundup

Hi All,

On Sunday I headed to Manchester for The BlogOnMSI Event.

I arrived at Manchester Station and met Up with Sally from The Midway Vlogs and Founder of Meet Other Mums along with Clare from Sons Sand & Sauvignon & also Award Winning Confetti Ave.

We grabbed a taxi to the Museum of Science and Industry where BlogOn was being held!

When we arrived there were people still milling outside as the museum doesn’t open until 10am

Then as soon as the doors opened there were a crowd of people went in.

Christmas hit you as soon as you arrived at the top floor and we were greeted by christmas costumes and decorations.

We signed in put our empty suitcases in the cloakroom area and headed off for a cuppa and to purchase tombola and raffle tickets.

There were mountains of prizes for both.

For the rest of the day we attended talks and ate and drank!

There were lots of amazing brands to connect with too.

Check out my Vlog for a quick run through the day.

Thanks to everyone involved in making the day happen it was amazing!

Wicked Wednesday – I told you it wasn’t broken!

Today’s post isn’t about my children as such but my god-daughter!

She is 15! Yes people they still deserve a good shaming blog post even as a teenager!

A couple of weeks ago Her mum asked if I could take them to A&E. My god Daughter(G)  had banged her wrist it had gone a funny colour and she couldn’t feel her fingers.

All the way there she rattled on (In nerves I suspect) about how she didn’t need A&E it wasn’t broken and if we lived in america we wouldn’t be going as it would be too much money!

Then when we got there and sat the 4 hour wait to get seen G decided maybe it was broken and she would quite like to have a pot, a sling, a brace!

Obviously in true mum style me and her mum said if you don’t stop whining you will need more than a pot! 😉

After she had, had a x-ray she was told just bruising and we went on our way!

All the way back G was like a stuck record – ‘I told you it wasn’t broken’

I think she was rather disappointed it wasn’t broken and she didn’t get a pot!

This is the obligatory A&E waiting room instashot!

Screen Free Tuesday (27.09.16) #Linky

Screen Free Bedtime!

Hello My name is Nina and I have an addiction – My iPhone

It’s the last thing I look at before I go to sleep and the first thing I look at when I wake up!

I have tried to give it up but hubby works away a lot and when he’s not working away he leaves early in a morning before my eyes are open normally  so I like to send him a message to let him know I love him and hope he has a good day!

img_0228

Excuses Excuses!

So reasons why screens are not good at bedtime –

  • Screen time can limit sleep time – How many times have you been online and when you look up an hour or more has passed without you realising?
  • Screens emit Blue lights wich can stop melatonin from being produced – Melatonin is what makes us have a good nights sleep!
  • Being engaged in a screen activity can excite you – Your brain meaning even when you eventually put down the device your then to stimulated to fall asleep.

So with all this in mind what can we do to avoid the screen and get a better nights sleep?

  •  Switch off an hour or more before bed!
  • Put your device out of reach.
  • Use an alarm clock instead of your phone to wake you.
  • Try reading an actual book rather than a kindle at bedtime
  • Create a doubting for bed soon that routine will be come a habit – but a better one than picking up that device.
  • For children. – read a book with them. Or tell them a story. Sing a calming song, tell each other the good things about the day.

I hope you have found this post useful.

Is there anything you do at night that Stops you picking up the device?

Don’t forget to leave a comment and join in with the Linky

“House Love” – Kitchen / Utility Mood Board – With VELUX Blinds

We bought our house along with a business from my my Laws, It was very much a house to work from rather than a home that I fell in love with.

My husband has lived there since he was a boy and worked here for the family business when he grew up!

When we moved in we started making it ours straight away by updating the kitchen but after 10 years (a  business that’s now closed, two rabbits that have come and gone, two dogs that have come and gone and now two children that have come and… No wait they are still here and are not going anywhere for at least another 14 years probably.) we are still trying updating.

Recently we have installed a downstairs bathroom and the next project will be replacing a tired conservatory that is on its last legs. We use this area as a walk through but also a utility area.

When My In laws moved in over 20 years ago the conservatory as is now was and old bus shelter that was put up as a make do!

I have been thinking of ways to make this space a little more usable and a nicer place to enter. Although its our back door its where everyone seems to come to!

I love the idea of having roof windows as you can see its just a wooden roof at the moment.

I used to live in a house in Whitby and my bedroom and landing had roof windows Like the ones from VELUX.
I loved them It gave a lot more light into what could have been quite a dull room!

Maybe built in appliances to match my kitchen that leads off from my conservatory.
Then It would obviously need some finishing touches.
Plants, fresh flowers a couple of pictures hanging some blinds for the windows.
Are you still with me I started day dream a little then sorry!

I have took to Pinterest to give me a little inspiration for my new project and come up with a mood board of sorts to get me started!

Ready For A Cuppa Review -River Hut Surbiton

I arrived at Surbiton Station last week for my day at the Handmade fair and decided as it was a nice day I would walk to the Hotel.

When the Holiday Inn was in sight I spotted Thames Ditton Marina. There was a little cafe / Bar on the side of the Marina it looked busy and quite contemporary – I decided that’s where I was going to have dinner that night!

Hubby finished work in central London and met me at the hotel. Then we headed out for Dinner.

We sat outside as it was a nice night!

Right on the riverside watching boats sail past.

We ordered dinner the staff spoke to us like we were friends, such a lovely vibe. I could have almost believed I was on holiday somewhere abroad.

SAMSUNG CSCWe ordered dinner and vowed we would go back the next day!

So now to my cuppa –

After my day at The Handmade Fair all I wanted was a cuppa! so we headed back to The River Hut!

It seemed there was a private party on and all the tables inside were reserved! One of the ladies who we had met the night before greeted us at the door. She asked if we had reserved and when we said no she said oh were booked up inside but you’re welcome to sit outside on the deck!

I really only wanted a cuppa so we ordered our tea & coffee and decided that we would also sample some cake.

We got talking to the lady who asked us where we had come from and what we were doing in London.20160916_193952 10.37.29.jpg

Then me and hubby sat with our cuppa’s and cake discussing the day and listening to some sea scouts rowing in the dark on the river.

SAMSUNG CSC

It felt like such a great place to have a bite to eat and the deserts were amazing!

I’m told this cafe is now permanently closed which is a shame as it had such a lovely vibe.

I have not been compensated for this post and all opinions are my own.
